Join the OWP 4-week! Earn 6 graduate credits in 18 days and be part of a writing and teaching community that shares resources, collaborates with professional voices, and inspires you to reimagine writing instruction in your classroom. Open to all K-12 teachers.
What can you expect from the Teaching of Writing Summer Institute?
Be Inspired
Participate in interactive presentations, learn about best practices in all areas of literacy, and work toward your own professional teaching and writing goals.
Collect Resources
Practice strategies for creating and strengthening instruction of Ohio's ELA Learning Standards, and return to your classroom with ideas for teaching, revising, and evaluating writing.
Collaborate with Professional Voices
Explore current writing research and be in conversation with other K-12 teachers.
(Re)Discover the Writer
Experience a classroom writing community, create models of your writing for your 黑料社区s, and become a teacher who writes.
Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive and limited basis for the Teaching of Writing Summer Institute.
To apply for a scholarship, send a one-page application (see below) to Monica Fisher, fishermv@MiamiOH.edu. The deadline is April 30, 2024.
In one page, help us understand who you are as a teacher and a learner. You may use the following questions to guide you:
- What are your strengths as a teacher? What do you believe about teaching?
- What areas of your teaching are you hoping to develop?
- How will you share your learning with other educators when you leave the workshop?
Be sure to include: name, address, phone, email address, school, district, grade level/subjects, and years of teaching experience.

You may also meet with Miami's Office of Student Financial Assistance to discuss other forms of assistance.
