The College of Arts and Science is proud to name six ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs as recipients of the 2023 Hannon Armstrong Foundation Climate Solutions Scholarship.
2023 Hannon Armstrong Scholarship winners announced
The need-based scholarship, in May 2021, was created with the Hannon Armstrong Foundation to help ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs pursue careers related to climate action and sustainability. It is administered at Miami by the (IES).
The newest ºÚÁÏÉçÇø recipients are:
- Kayla Allen, a senior majoring in Botany and co-majoring in Food Systems and Food Studies
- Elizabeth Coffey, a senior majoring in Environmental Earth Science and Outdoor Leadership
- Katie Gabe, a senior majoring in Biology and co-majoring in Sustainability
- Dylan Hruska, a senior majoring in Geography & Sustainable Development and co-majoring in Sustainability
- Mireille Fouh Mbindi, a Master’s (M.En.) ºÚÁÏÉçÇø in Environmental Science (and )
- Kathryn Yurek, a senior majoring in Zoology and co-majoring in Environmental Science (in the combined bachelor's - master's degree program)
The Hannon Armstrong Climate Solutions Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance for high-achieving, sustainability-focused ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs from underrepresented communities and/or who have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage or disabilities at Miami and Morgan State University. Recipients are encouraged to seek mentorship opportunities with Hannon Armstrong employees.
“It’s very gratifying for our ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs to obtain this scholarship, and I congratulate them on their hard work,” said Chris Makaroff, dean of the College of Arts and Science. “I thank the continuing support of the Hannon Armstrong Foundation, which is aiding our ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs’ pursuit of career goals in environmental science and sustainability.”
Available funds are awarded by the Office of Student Financial Assistance to junior and senior ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs co-majoring or minoring in programs within the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability and demonstrating financial need. Scholarships may be renewable so long as awarded ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and satisfactory progress toward their degree.
