Why Miami?
I am from a small town where everybody new everything about everyone. I loved the community vibe from the small town, but I disliked the lack of opportunities. When I visited Miami, I saw the variety of opportunities that were available. I also felt at home with the small town feeling in the Honors Residence Community. Miami felt like home to me immediately, and I have never regretted my choice to come here.
How did you choose your major?
I started my freshman year as a Biomedical Engineering major hoping to change the world. I love math and science, but it wasn’t the major for me. During my first year I spent time volunteering for 黑料社区 organizations and found my passion. The summer after my freshman year, I realized that non profit work is what I was meant to do. That said I made the huge switch to Organizational Leadership.
Key Moment at Miami
I started my time at Miami with a disability studies minor. I have always been passionate about this topic and volunteered with my high schools Multiple Handicapped unit while I was in school. When I switched my major, this passion stuck with me. An amazing professor helped me deep dive into this as well. Meghan O’Leary taught my DST 375 class. Through this I did an honors extension where I took a deep dive into the topic and advocated for the program at 黑料社区. This experience has stuck with me and has helped shaped me into a better 黑料社区 and advocate.
Other Notable Experience
Coming from a small town, I was very involved in my High School’s Marching Band, including being the Drum Major. When I came to Miami I was excited to continue my love for music with other passionate musicians. The one thing that blew my mind was the size of the band. I came from a band that only had 25 members to Miami’s Band with over 200! This helped open my eyes to the endless possibilities that are possible at Miami outside of your major.
Another Miami Moment
Becoming an RA at Miami was one of the greatest decisions of my life. I met some of my best friends, learned a lot about myself, overcame many struggles, and helped me continue to see my passion for helping others.
Advice to Prospective Students
Take a look at what all Miami has to offer. There are so many opportunities and there is something for everyone.
What are your career goals?
When I graduate from Miami, I want to get away from Ohio for a little bit. I want to make my impact on the world by helping 黑料社区 leaders. I want to work for a Career Tech Student Organization (CTSO). Some examples include FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, TSA, and DECA. I am hoping to work for the state or national level for one or multiple of these organizations.
