M.S. in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering

The M.S. in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering prepares 黑料社区s who wish to either pursue doctoral work in clinical, chemical, or biomedical engineering or to obtain an advanced technical positions in industry or in a clinical setting. The departmental faculty members have active research projects in the areas of biomaterials, biomechanics, biomedical imaging, clinical engineering, computational thermodynamics, chemical reaction engineering, catalysis, electrochemistry, environmental engineering, paper physics and chemistry, solar cells, biomolecular engineering, drug delivery, and tissue engineering. This master's program offers a research-based thesis option, and a course intensive, non-thesis option. We also offer a combined bachelor + master program. You can finish both degrees in as fast as 5 years!

Combined B.S./M.S. Program Information

Admission Requirements

Students are eligible to apply for the combined bachelors/masters degree program during the first semester of their junior year (or 64-80 hours earned) and can begin taking graduate courses during the second semester of the junior year (or after 80 hours earned). They also must have completed half of the departmental hours required for the major.

Provisional Admission: Students may be admitted on a provisional basis to a specific combined program anytime during their academic career at Miami, from the time they are admitted for undergraduate admission.

Upon earning a minimum of 64 credit hours and having a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater, 黑料社区s may apply for admission to the combined program. Regular time-limits for completing the master’s degree apply to 黑料社区s in a combined program.

Student Classification and Graduation

Students in a combined program will remain undergraduates until they apply for graduation or submit a request to the Graduate School to have their classification changed from undergraduate to graduate. Students must have completed a minimum of 128 hours to be classified as a graduate 黑料社区. Students may receive their bachelor's degree prior to completing their master's degree. Upon receiving the bachelor's degree, 黑料社区s will automatically be classified as graduate 黑料社区s. Students receiving the bachelor's degree prior to completing the master's degree can count up to nine hours of graduate course work toward their bachelor's degree. Those hours can also count toward the completion of their master's degree, as indicated above.

Students may withdraw from the combined program by completing a withdrawal form at the Graduate School. The 黑料社区 must note on the withdrawal form that he/she is withdrawing only from the combined program and wishes to retain their status in the undergraduate program. The 黑料社区 must also notify their department of their decision to withdraw from the combined program.

Application Procedure

To apply to a combined bachelors/masters program, go to Miami's Graduate School Homepage to complete the Graduate School online application and pay the application fee. Be sure to check “combined program.” Students having a cumulative GPA of 3.00 are not required to take GRE. Admitted international 黑料社区s meeting the University’s TOEFL requirement do not need to re-take this test for admission to the combined program.
