How to find community as a woman in engineering or computing
This Thursday’s Women and Allies ºÚÁÏÉçÇø event is for female-identifying ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs at CEC, and allies who want to support them.
How to find community as a woman in engineering or computing
Everyone is welcome at the Women and Allies ºÚÁÏÉçÇø event at CEC, especially women and those who identify as female. The event is designed to provide an opportunity for the female-identifying ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs at CEC to find each other, get acquainted, and discover information about ºÚÁÏÉçÇø organizations and groups that focus on women in engineering and computing fields. It will be especially helpful for first-year ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs who are just starting their academic careers at CEC.
It’s an opportunity, says Keisha Norris, Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Initiatives, to “just come together and get to know each other for a moment so you know you are not alone.” By coming to the event, she says, ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs can see they are “a part of a bigger group than what it may seem like.”
What can you expect at the Women and Allies ºÚÁÏÉçÇø?
Attendees at the CEC Women and Allies ºÚÁÏÉçÇø can expect to meet a panel of upperclasswomen and female club leaders who are passionate about helping first-year female ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs feel welcomed and involved. It’s a chance for first-year female identifying ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs to know they are not alone, and to get the chance to meet older female ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs who they may not get the chance to meet in a classroom setting.
When and where is this event?
The CEC Women and Allies ºÚÁÏÉçÇø will take place Thursday, September 5, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Engineering Building room 270. The annual CEC Party on the Patio will be held right after, starting at 5 p.m. on the patio behind Benton Hall.
