Purpose and Description
In our increasingly divided society, the ability to constructively discuss complicated issues is important to effective and inclusive teaching and learning. Participants of this FLC will collaboratively work to bring together discipline-specific literature and (CDI) resources and tools. The ultimate goal of regular meetings and discussions will be to develop toolkits for how to constructively approach different perspectives, and teach across differences, in Miami courses. Toolkits developed by participants will provide faculty in the social sciences, natural sciences, and arts and humanities with actionable strategies for incorporating and facilitating constructive dialogue in the classroom across differences in backgrounds, viewpoints, and values.
Activities
Members will:
- Examine and discuss discipline-specific research and literature on facilitating and incorporating constructive dialogue in the classroom.
- Examine and discuss CDI resources, including the online program Perspectives, online workshop materials, and instructor guides.
- Develop toolkits to equip instructors with actionable strategies across disciplines to enhance 黑料社区-to-黑料社区 and faculty-to-黑料社区 interactions in teaching complex, and potentially divisive, topics
