Associate Professor
Michael Bailey-Van Kuren
Biography
Michael integrates physical and digital technology to meet human-centered needs primarily in the area of assistive technology. Areas include design thinking, human-robot interaction, mechatronics, and dysphagia. He has led study abroad workshops that develop interactive experiences for clients in various cities (London, Dublin, and San Francisco) for 15 years.
During his time as Chair of ETBD, the department has introduced new facilities in the McVey Data Science Building to support new curricular areas and a hands-on 黑料社区 experience.
Michael Bailey-Van Kuren utilizes his background in robotics and controls to design new mechatronic interfaces and devices for pediatric assistive technology. In working with the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, Michael has helped secure two patents. Recent projects include a published mobile application to help Ohio families find recovery housing, new methodologies for clinical-based design, a game interface to promote oral feeding, and an augmented reality interface for nutrition research.
Michael has previous experience with Belcan Corporation, the University of Texas at El Paso, Raytheon Corporation, and IBM.
