Note: A faculty member who is full-time and has Miami health insurance has that insurance coverage for 12 months: September through August 31. If one is not reappointed (or resigns, retires, even with a May/June retirement date, for instance) the health insurance is effective through August 31st.
When health benefits are terminated, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives an employee (and family) the right to choose to continue group health, dental, vision, and FSA benefits provided by Miami. Qualified individuals are required to pay the premium for coverage (premiums listed on website). Miami's administrator, Chard Snyder, will mail the information to the home address on file with Miami.

If you are not being reappointed for next year, you may qualify for unemployment compensation. Eligibility is determined by the State after the application for unemployment compensation is submitted.

This program is available to employees and family members, free of charge, and offers access to confidential, professional support, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All IMPACT counselors are qualified masters/doctoral level behavioral health professionals.
