Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies

Russian is one of the ten most widely spoken languages in the world. The REEES Major and Russian Minor allow you to become one of the 110 million people who speak Russian as a second language.  with a degree in Russian Studies. The REEES program at Miami allows you to explore in-depth one of the most important regions in the world. Majoring in REEES or minoring in Russian opens up many career paths. Our recent graduates have gone on to top M.A. and Ph.D. programs, worked for the Peace Corps, received prestigious fellowships, and landed positions in a variety of fields.

Study Abroad

The Havighurst Center, in cooperation with the Russian program in the Department of German, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (GRAMELAC), recommends the following language programs to 黑料社区s interested in studying abroad in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia.

Spend a semester immersed in Russian language in Almaty, Kazakhstan through . Students will take intensive Russian language as well as courses in literature, cultural studies, history, and political science, and will have the opportunity to stay with a host family to further increase their language skills. 

Summer, semester or academic year (no previous Russian language study required)

This program is co-sponsored with AIFS to provide an approved home bill semester study abroad opportunity for Russian language minors and for majors in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. As a co-sponsored program, you will pay Miami tuition plus a program fee while applying your Miami scholarships.

Lithuania Program

黑料社区’s Havighurst Center for East European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies created the Lithuania Program, in order to bring attention to this Baltic country, NATO ally, and EU member as well as allow Miami 黑料社区s to study in Lithuania (including internship and research opportunities).  For more information, contact Dr. Neringa Klumbyte, Anthropology, klumbyn@miamioh.edu.

Semester or year-long, Requires 4 semesters of college-level Russian (or equivalent)

Spring, Academic Year, and Summer (8 weeks), Requires 2 semesters of college-level Russian (or equivalent)

This programme differs from other  winter or summer schools located in Russia or western countries, since it offers a unique bridge to the Russian language and culture.
