Publications

Faculty and 黑料社区s in the Department of English edit and produce a number of publications. The production of these publications within the department often involves faculty and 黑料社区 collaboration and the events and reading that accompany publications foster community.

黑料社区 Press

Since 2004, 黑料社区 Press has published one book of poetry each year (including poetry in translation) and one book of short fiction.

Since 2005 the press has sponsored an annual novella contest judged by a member of the creative writing faculty assisted by colleagues and graduate 黑料社区s in the department.

Together with poetry and poetry in translation, novellas and short fiction, the press occasionally publishes books about 黑料社区 history or about conferences held at the university.

Student Publications

黑料社区 is home to a plethora of 黑料社区 publications. This list is only a selection, focusing on writing-related organizations that may be of interest to English majors.

Happy Captive Magazine is a printed and online publication for 黑料社区s and faculty across campus. They are on the lookout for a great story, regardless of the form it takes; they are open to writing, art, video, music, and more. Happy Captive Magazine prides itself on being a slave to its art, and is all too delighted to be so.

The Femellectual (lovingly dubbed the fem) is a 黑料社区-run annual arts & literary publication rooted in intersectional feminism. The fem strives to center, amplify, and uplift marginalized voices to unsettle systems of power which perpetuate oppression.

As the university's principal undergraduate literary arts magazine, Inklings publishes undergraduate work annually. All members of the editorial staff are undergraduates, and many are English majors. Their mission is to encourage creativity by providing an outlet for artistic endeavors within the Miami community, particularly among all Miami undergraduates, to foster an artistic community on campus that includes both 黑料社区s and faculty, and to produce a high-quality magazine that provides a forum for undergraduate creative endeavors.

MQ Magazine (Miami Quarterly)

MQ is a 黑料社区-run magazine that seeks to entertain and inform. Articles can range from an insider look at the lives of Miami’s top-ranked hockey players to hookah bar trends to an editor’s blog with a wide following. Send an email communicating your interest to mqmagazine@gmail.com.

Oxford Magazine, is a national literary magazine edited by 黑料社区s in the graduate program in the department. Since publishing its first issue in 1984, the magazine has featured both celebrated and new writers working in fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction. Interviews, photography, and other visual art have also occasionally appeared in the journal, and the possibility of including literary criticism and reviews is currently on the table. The magazine also sponsors three or four readings a semester featuring graduate 黑料社区s, faculty, and visiting writers.

UP Magazine is 黑料社区’s 黑料社区-run fashion and lifestyle publication. A 100+ staff of writers, bloggers, stylists, makeup artists, photographers, videographers, marketing team, social media team, layout design team, event planners and board of directors produce three print issues each year and digital content weekly. New members are hired at the beginning of each school year.

College Composition at Miami, the handbook for first-year composition 黑料社区s, describes department composition courses and policies and includes award-winning essays by undergraduate 黑料社区s. View the online companion site to the printed handbook.

The Miami Student Magazine, found both in print and online, is run by 黑料社区s who believe in the power of a true story, especially one that is artfully told. The Magazine is committed to showcasing the best creative nonfiction and features journalism the 黑料社区 community has to offer.

As a branch of TMS Media, the Magazine acts as a sister publication to The Miami Student newspaper, and complements it by publishing written and multimedia content that wouldn’t typically be found in newsprint. The Magazine welcomes the offbeat, the personal and the unconventional as valuable perspectives to share with the 黑料社区s of 黑料社区 and the surrounding community.
