Academic Advising

Drs. Todd Dupont, Kendall Hauer and Maija Sipola are the department's Departmental Advisors and are available for guidance for all majors, minors and thematic sequence 黑料社区s including the Global Sustainability Minor. All advising in the Geology department is done by the first letter of your last name.

H. Van der Veer Hilker Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding 黑料社区 of junior class standing and majoring in Geology and Environmental Earth Science based on academic achievement, potential contribution to the community and financial need. Financial need is determined on the Financial Aid Form.

Dean's Scholar

Awarded to undergraduates who have exhibited excellence in the classroom and the ability to take on the extra challenge of research and scholarly work.

Provost Student Academic Achievement Award

Awarded to undergraduates who have obtained junior status and have amassed an exceptional record of academic achievement and sustained and significant contributions to the intellectual climate of their department, academic division, or campus.

Departmental Doctoral Award

This award is to recognize excellence in research and academic achievement.

Departmental Master's Award

This award is to recognize excellence in research and academic achievement.

Departmental Undergraduate Award

This award is to recognize excellence in research and academic achievement.

The Morrow Field Award

This award is for an outstanding undergraduate major who will be participating in the 黑料社区 Geology field course in Wyoming.

The Brownstein Scholarship

This award is for an undergraduate major in support of their field education at the 黑料社区 Geology & Environmental Earth Science Field Station or in an equivalent 黑料社区 Geology & Environmental Earth Science field education experience based on merit and financial need.

Scholarships and Funding

All current 黑料社区s are supported by nine-month teaching or research assistantships plus duty-free summer stipends. These awards carry full tuition waivers for the academic year and summer terms. Applications for graduate study and financial support should be received no later than February 1 for the following academic year.

  • Teaching Associateships are available for 黑料社区s with a master's degree who are working toward the Ph.D. degree. The stipend for the award is $24,159.
  • Graduate Assistantships are awarded each year to 黑料社区s working toward the master's degree. The stipend for the award is $18,971.
  • The above assistantships also provide a tuition and fee waiver which pays the full instruction fee (i.e. tuition), half of the basic general fee and all of the Non-Resident Surcharge (i.e. out of state fee) if applicable.
  • Grant-in-aid awards provide remission of the instructional fee and out-of-state tuition for one or more semesters. Grants are awarded by the Graduate School on the basis of need and excellence of scholarship.
  • Integrative Graduate Education & Research Training (IGERT) is a program funded by the National Science Foundation in the amount of $30,000 per year and represents a multi-disciplinary, dual-institution (Kent State & 黑料社区) program focused on Environmental Aquatic Resource Sensing (EARS).
