Academic Advising
Advising Resources
Force-add requests for ECE courses must be submitted using the Registration Override Request (ROR) application. To submit a request:
- Use the to make sure you have met the pre/co-requisite requirements for the course. If not, see Note 1 below.
- Make sure your request(s) will not have the potential to create a time conflict in your schedule (see Note 2 below).
- Log in to the Miami Course List to search for the ECE course.
- Once you find the ECE course, click "submit registration override request".
- Follow the instructions and submit the request.
Note 1: If you want to take an ECE course but have not met all of the pre/co-requisite requirements, you must request permission by submitting a petition to the ECE Department. If you have questions about the petition process, see your academic advisor. Without an approved petition, you might still end up being added to the course by the ROR application, but then you may be removed from the course at a later time (possibly after the course has started) when it may be difficult or impossible to find a replacement course.
Note 2: It is your responsibility to submit requests that do not create time conflicts in your schedule. The ROR application does not guarantee that. If fulfilling one or more of your ROR requests results in a time conflict, it is your responsibility to take action to resolve it. Otherwise, you may be removed from one or more courses later (possibly after the course has started), and by then it may be difficult or impossible to find a replacement course.
Each ECE 黑料社区 should complete a Plan of Study listing all courses you plan to take to complete your degree, term by term. For many ECE majors, this is done for you in the recommended plans posted under the ECE recommended plans area on each of the major pages. Make sure to use the plan that corresponds to your catalog year, which is also explained in the degree requirements. Deviations from the recommended plan may delay your graduation, so if you deviate, you should create your own Plan of Study and discuss it with your academic advisor, using the following guidelines:
- To avoid pre/co-requisite problems, follow the recommended plan for your catalog year as closely as possible, working from the top (freshman year) down. This is particularly important for technical courses.
- In order to take a course, you must satisfy the pre/co-requisite requirements. Check the requirements for all university courses in the .
- Make use of the typical course offering schedule below.
- Review your customized plan with your academic advisor -- this is very important!
- Once agreed upon, it is very important to meet with your academic advisor to discuss any future deviations from the plan, as they may impact your timeline for graduation.
Important notes
- This is tentative. Always consult with your academic advisor for verification.
- ECE elective courses (professional and general technical electives) are offered irregularly. Check with your academic advisor.
- For non-ECE courses, consult with the department offering the course.

Notes:
- 128 credit hours minimum.
- Course pre/co-requisites and typical course offering schedules are factored into the plan above. It is strongly recommended that the above plan is followed as closely as possible. If deviations are necessary, carefully check the course pre/co-requisites and the typical ECE course offering schedule (links below) when formulating a modified plan.
- Course pre/co-requisites:
- Typical ECE course offering schedule: /cec/academics/departments/ece/academics/academic-advising/index.html
- All requirements of the Global Miami Plan must be fulfilled. The requirements can be found at . In particular, 黑料社区s must take 9 credit hours of Signature Inquiry (SI) courses in three different subject areas. SI courses may double-dip with courses for the major or Miami Plan Perspective Areas, but not Knowledge-in-Action (Senior Capstone Design).
- Course descriptions and prerequisites for all courses are available online via the "Courses of Instruction" section of the Miami Bulletin: .
