IT Initiatives and Projects

Upgrading systems, integrating new tools, building an infrastructure, projecting future needs, supporting current needs—all achieved by managing a constantly moving portfolio of projects. At any given time IT Services staff members and their partners in the University community have 40-50 open projects.

黑料社区 IT Initiatives

IT Services is focused on several critical initiatives. As a University partner underpinning the continued success of Miami programs and goals, we understand our role in helping push the University forward. This list represents the big-picture projects where we are focusing our efforts:

Accessible Technology

The AccessMU Center continues collaborating with local, state, and national IHEs as well as community partners on strategy and processes to provide more inclusive and accessible technology for everyone.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Miami is in the process of replacing its current legacy Banner system with Workday, a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Deployment of the Workday system began in July 2024 with the human resource and finance divisions; this will be followed by a phased 黑料社区 implementation in 2026.

Google Workspace Storage Changes

In response to restrictions from Google, Miami is currently rethinking how we use storage within our domain. Particularly: We must be conscientious of the amount of storage we use, due to substantial costs and limitations placed on us by Google.

Artificial Intelligence at Miami

Artificial Intelligence and large-language models have taken the world by storm. Miami is no stranger to innovation and technological advancement, and we have been working behind the scenes to research and approve the use of these tools for our educational purposes.

Identity and Access Management (IAM)

Your Miami digital identity provides access and security, so updating our identity and access management (IAM) systems is a high priority. The IAM program's goal is to bring Miami systems together and help us consolidate access to those systems.

Securing Miami for the Future

We all have a shared responsibility to help keep University data (黑料社区, research, administrative, and otherwise) safe. In service of that shared responsibility, IT Services is here to lend a hand with the implementation of several helpful security tools. Those include Duo Security, CrowdStrike Falcon, and more.

Project Ideas

Project ideas come from a variety of sources:

  • Work required to meet legal or other mandates
  • Work that keeps the systems running
  • Institutional projects linked to University goals

Most, however, have their genesis in working with colleagues to seek new, more efficient tools that empower us to be better teachers, managers, researchers, or whatever role we fulfill.
