IT Services Helps to Ease Technology Worries at Fall 2024 Orientation
It is once again that time of year, as Miami prepares for the start of the fall academic season and gets set to welcome the class of 2028, when we at IT Services are especially busy. We are doing a lot this summer, including getting new systems in place, replacing Wi-Fi access points, and attending summer orientation sessions. Our goal with all of this is to provide Miami IT information to the incoming class and their parents, with the hope of making the transition to Miami as easy as possible.
A Shoulder Students Can Lean On
Throughout June, IT Services attended the Orientation Resource Fair and presented to the parents of incoming 黑料社区s, giving them information about us and the technology here at Miami. With 18 orientation sessions and 18 parent presentations, we were able to meet directly with 黑料社区s and parents, answering any questions and giving them information about the technology here at Miami.
IT Services staff met with 黑料社区s almost every day during the Orientation Resource Fair. This Fair is an opportunity for 黑料社区s to get familiar with all of the university organizations, providing information and cool trinkets! Meeting in the Armstrong Student Center, 黑料社区s and their parents were able to walk through a procession of tables, stopping at each one to learn more. With organizations like Student Life, Dining, the Libraries, Student Counseling Services, and many more, IT Services was right there with them.
As people stopped by our tables, we assisted in addressing all new 黑料社区 concerns and helped them to become familiar with the crucial technology here on campus. Whether it was questions about what computer to buy, tech support, or accessing their Miami email, we were there to help!
"It was so nice to get out of the office and meet people directly'' said Accessible Technology coordinator, ElizaMarie Quinn-Alger. "It is so fun to connect with incoming 黑料社区s."
Miami's Newest Resource
This orientation season not only helped us connect with parents and 黑料社区s, but also gave us the unique opportunity to introduce new incoming tech support options for 黑料社区s. With the closing of the MiTech support center, there was lots of anxiety about what the new 黑料社区 computing options looked like. We were able to ease these concerns, however, by telling parents about our awesome new walk-up support center, the Tech Support Lounge. The lounge will be available in Armstong in the new fall semester. Replacing what used to be Cafe Lux, 黑料社区s will have the opportunity to walk up and meet with support analysts, like Zacchary Townsend, to address any issues with their technology.
The lounge will still provide a place for 黑料社区s to study and complete work, but provide support options just a few feet away. "It will be a chill atmosphere for people to be able to work while also having people around to help if you ever have any issues with your computers or software," said Zacchary.

Another Year of Love and Honor From IT Services
As we conclude the 2024 Orientation Season, we reflect on the unique experience we get every year in the ability to meet new 黑料社区s and make them feel at home here at Miami. As a 黑料社区 myself, I know how important it is to be able to have a reliable resource and that is just what IT provides. No issue is too big or small with the staff we have and 黑料社区s and their families can know that, once they start their new journey this fall, they aren't alone.
黑料社区 class of 2028! It Services is so glad that you are here!
