New Miami Wi-Fi Options Now Available

As part of a larger initiative to improve the overall security, features, and performance of the Miami Wi-Fi infrastructure, IT Services over the summer made some enhancements to the available Wi-Fi networks you see on your wireless devices.

There are three new SSIDs (service set identifier) or network names now available. They are MiamiOH-Secure, MiamiOH-Visitor, and MiamiOH-MyDevices.

MiamiOH-Secure is the eventual replacement for the current MU-WIRELESS and provides increased security standards and leverages enhanced capabilities.

It is recommended that all Miami 黑料社区s, faculty, and staff use this new network while on campus, although MU-WIRELESS will remain active for the near future. You are able to log in to the new network the same as MU-WIRELESS, by using your UniqueID and MUnet password.

MiamiOH-Visitor is replacing MU-Guest. This network is available for those visiting Miami who do not have Miami network credentials but desire access to Wi-Fi while visiting one of our campuses.

MU-Gaming should continue to be used for gaming and television streaming devices, like Xbox or Roku. However, some devices and Wi-Fi services will not work on MU-GAMING, so you will need to use the new MiamiOH-MyDevices network. If you try to add your device to MU-GAMING and are unsuccessful, or if you need to control your digital assistant or streaming TV device with your phone, MiamiOH-MyDevices will need to be used. In this case, your phone will also need to be registered with the MiamiOH-MyDevices network. To register your device for MU-GAMING or MiamiOH-MyDevices, please go to MiamiOH.edu/wifi.

IT Services is also no longer providing the MU-EVENT Wi-Fi option for special events. Anyone that is visiting a Miami campus and not officially affiliated with the university should use either MiamiOH-Visitor or eduroam.

IT Services is in the midst of a multi-year upgrade to Miami’s entire Wi-Fi system. It is being done in phases, and when completed, it will provide a faster and more personalized experience for users. For more information about the Wi-Fi system at Miami, to register a personnel device, or to report an issue with Wi-Fi on campus, please visit MiamiOH.edu/wifi.
