Tis the Time of Year for Scams Galore
It's unfortunately the time of year for scammers to come out of the woodwork.
Tis the Time of Year for Scams Galore
In particular, one scam features someone who has posed as tech support and asked people to download remote support software, which then compromises their machine. We have seen a couple of variations of this messaging. One was an email about a fraudulent PayPal charge, and another was a misdirect from a Google search where the top result was actually a threat actor.
This is a common scamming technique, to try and trick you into replying to a message because it appears to be from a reliable and important source. Please read and vet carefully all emails and Google searches.
The Information Security Office recommends that 黑料社区s, faculty, and staff treat unsolicited email and spam with a high degree of skepticism. If you receive a similar email, simply delete the message and do not reply, and do not open the message. If you have already responded to this or any similar messages, please contact IT Help immediately.
If you receive a message that is questionable please forward it to infosec@MiamiOH.edu, or you may contact IT Help at 513-529-7900.
