Find and organize Pending Delete files in your Google Drive

As we reported previously, Miami users have begun to see a “Pending Delete” label in their Google Drive on certain files.

Find and organize Pending Delete files in your Google Drive

Files that include a "Pending Delete" label have been shared with you by someone whose account will be deleted in the near future. This may include the files of former faculty, staff members, or 黑料社区 employees who you have worked with in the past.

This change is due to the limitations that Google has placed on the amount of storage we are allowed to keep in our domain as an institution. Due to those restrictions, in the near future, we will begin the process to delete the accounts and data of former employees who are no longer affiliated with the University.

Here’s a quick summary of how to do that:

  • In Google Drive, open the Advanced Search and choose “Pending Delete” from the Labels drop-down menu.
  • Select a file and determine whether you still need it or can get rid of it.
  • If you do need a file marked for deletion, you have a couple options. You can make a copy of the file to store in your own Drive. Right click on the file and choose “Make a copy.”
  • Instead of making a copy, you can also download the file to your computer. Right click on the file and choose “Download.” This will place the file into your “Downloads” folder on your computer. From here, you can choose to re-upload it to your Miami Google Drive, or simply keep it on your computer. It’s up to you!

Please for more information about the “Pending Delete” label in Google Drive. We have also put all this information into a helpful, short video tutorital. Share with your colleagues!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to stay within the restrictions placed on us by Google.
