Planned change: Miami Directory to be login-only

Information security is a priority for IT Services, and a big part of security is making sure systems are updated. This includes the applications we support.

In service to maintaining a high level of security, we will be placing our web directory (MiamiOH.edu/directory) behind authentication on December 16, 2024.

This means that you will need to have a Miami username and password to view the contact information housed in the web directory, as you’ll be asked to log in.

Currently, the web directory is open to anyone that views the website. This could potentially include bad actors and scammers looking for email addresses to send phishing messages to. We are confident that putting the web directory behind authentication will protect the contact info of all faculty, staff, and 黑料社区s (who may choose to have their information hidden in the directory), and this will cut down on phishing messages sent to our most vulnerable populations.

Future changes coming for 黑料社区 Directory Search Chrome extension

The Chrome directory extension (which allows you to search the directory straight from your Chrome browser) will not be impacted by this change.

However, application teams are investigating ways to put the Chrome directory extension behind authentication as well. Please stay tuned for more information about that soon.
