Vision

The LGBTQ+ Task Force is a collective of faculty, staff, ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs, and alumni who meet regularly to discuss ways to strengthen the sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø.  This group is an advisory group to the Office of Transformational and Inclusive Excellence (OTIE) in examining, developing, and assessing policies, programming, and support systems to better serve LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs in the context of a fully inclusive Miami community.

Charge

The task force is charged with examining and recommending policies, programming, and other forms of support for a more fully LGBTQ+ inclusive Miami. The task force charge includes collecting data on ºÚÁÏÉçÇø’s current policies, programs, procedures, and practices related to all aspects of LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇø experiences.  This process can be accomplished through doing an inventory of current offerings, resources, and support systems.  After this exploration, benchmarking best practices across the nation can be done to inform next steps to supporting a more inclusive Miami for LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs.  An intentional effort will be made to include regional campuses in this data gathering process to ensure all of Miami is represented in the recommendations put forth by this group.  This group can be an advisory group for key stakeholders on campus by providing feedback and insight when necessary, to ensure LGBTQ+ perspectives and experiences are considered in the development of new policies, programs, and procedures.

LGBTQ+ Task Force Report

The LGBTQ+ Task Force Report is a document crafted by Miami faculty, staff, ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs, and alumni after one and a half years of collective work to provide recommendations for the Miami community. This document outlines the national context LGBTQ+ ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs, faculty, and staff experience in higher education, a background of how the task force functioned and developed the recommendations outlined in this document. The recommendations put forth from this group are composed of four overarching areas: (1) Programming, Housing/Physical Spaces, and Student Development, (2) Capacity Building and Educational Resources, (3) Community Building for Students, Faculty, and Staff, and (4) Curricular and Co-Curricular Experiences. Within each of these areas task force members provided Miami context alongside their recommendations based on national benchmarking. Personal, professional, and scholarly knowledge were used throughout this process to support a robust and generative outline of how Miami can become a more welcoming, inclusive, and affirming
community for LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs.

Vision

The Accessibility Task Force is a collective of faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs who meet regularly to discuss ways to raise awareness and develop strategies around accessibility to build more inclusive spaces around campus for all members of the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø community. This task force is an advisory group to the Office of Transformational and Inclusive Excellence (OTIE) in examining, developing, and assessing policies, programming, and support systems to better serve faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs in the context of a fully inclusive Miami community.

Charge

The task force is charged with examining and recommending policies, programming, and other forms of support for a more fully accessible Miami. The task force charge includes collecting data on the existence and practices connected to ºÚÁÏÉçÇø’s current policies, programs and procedures related to all aspects of accessibility and inclusive programming on campus.  This process can be accomplished through doing an inventory of current offerings, resources, and support systems.  After this exploration, benchmarking best practices across the nation in peer or aspirational institutions can be done to inform next steps to support a more inclusive Miami for faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs.  An intentional effort should be made to include regional campuses in this data-gathering process to ensure all of Miami is represented in the recommendations put forth by this group.  Moreover, this group can be an advisory group for key stakeholders on campus by providing feedback and insight when necessary, to ensure inclusive perspectives and experiences are considered in the development of new policies, programs, and procedures.

Office of Transformational and Inclusive Excellence

Our mission is to empower each ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, staff, and faculty member to promote and become engaged citizens who use their acquired knowledge and skills with integrity and compassion to improve the future of the community and the world.
