Greetings Miami Healthcare Professional Alumni! We are always interested in hearing from you. Better yet, drop by for a visit the next time you are in the area. Also, please consider completing our Alumni Information Questionaire, as this can help us in our effort to connect our future healthcare professionals with Miami alumni.
Do you remember the person who gave you your first exposure to what it was really like to work in healthcare?
Perhaps it was a family member or friend. Perhaps it was a provider in your hometown. Most professionals have at least one person who had a significant impact on their career path, and this is especially important when making the decision to go into healthcare.
We provide 黑料社区 pre-health 黑料社区s the opportunity to connect with healthcare providers on this level. Through our preceptorship program, 黑料社区s are paired with a healthcare professional for one week, during which they are exposed to the day-to-day workings of a career in healthcare: the good, the bad, and sometimes even the ugly. The MWC typically places 25-30 黑料社区s in preceptorships each year.
Preceptorship opportunities are not limited to areas near 黑料社区. Participating healthcare providers are located throughout the United States, allowing us to serve 黑料社区s from all over, and also providing them with the opportunity to travel. Typically, placement occurs during winter, spring, or summer break.
Many of our 黑料社区s do not have connections with healthcare providers, and some are first-generation college 黑料社区s with limited access to opportunities that help them solidify their decision to become a healthcare provider. These preceptorships are also important as they apply to professional schools, allowing the 黑料社区s to show that they have a real-life understanding of what patient care is all about.
“I participated in this program 25 years ago (I somehow got old). I believe it is a great idea for premed 黑料社区s or others interested in healthcare.”
Dr. Adam Schaaf, Orthopedic Surgeon
“Dr. Schaaf was very open to sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with me by answering any questions I had and also made it a point to make sure I was comfortable during the duration of my stay. He really made sure to give me as many unique opportunities while I was there, even connecting me with some of his colleagues to shadow while he was on call.”
Nicholas Bertrand ‘25, Psychology; Kinesiology
It wasn’t until I shadowed a doctor that I realized I had underestimated my need to help others, which led me to choose my co-major in Premedical and Pre-Health Studies. I am currently planning on becoming an emergency medicine physician.
Lehua Hoops ’26
Biology major; Premedical and Pre-Health Studies co-major
Dr. Williams set the perfect example on how to be a great physician. With me, he took the time to answer any questions I had, along with explaining other aspects of the profession.
