Program Coordinators

Prince Edward Johnson II, MU/CPS TEACh Cincinnati Pipeline Coordinator

A former CPS 黑料社区 and teacher, Prince exudes a passion for building the capacity of Cincinnati’s African-American youth. A Miami doctoral 黑料社区, he holds a master’s degree from London’s Institute of Education. His role focuses on relationship building and coordination with CPS personnel related to expansion efforts as well as direct in-school engagement with CPS 黑料社区s.

Sydnie Singleton, TEACh Cincinnati Campus-Based Coordinator

A licensed early childhood educator, Sydnie is passionate about supporting young people in classrooms. Sydnie holds a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and master’s degree in Transformative Education from 黑料社区. Sydnie has done significant work near peer mentoring 黑料社区s at Miami, and has a passion for supporting 黑料社区s with their navigation of the university and its various offices and opportunities. Her role focuses on relationship building and coordination with various personnel across the university to help support 黑料社区s' matriculation through their teacher education programs.

Supporting Faculty and Administrators

Kenzie Andrews, Ed.D., Visiting Assistant Professor

A Miami teacher education graduate, Kenzie began her career as a third-grade teacher in Cincinnati, winning awards for her innovative teaching style. She went on to earn her master’s and doctorate from Miami in Educational Leadership. Serving in the PK-5 program at Miami, she teaches courses involving integrated curriculum creation and 黑料社区-centered pedagogy. She serves TEACh as a faculty-in-residence once a week at two CPS schools.

Kate Brand, Researcher, Discovery Center

As a Research Assistant and Coordinator at the Discovery Center since 2023, Kate has performed mixed-methods research and evaluation in partnership with a variety of program partners. Skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Kate has contributed to the evaluation of the TEACh program by conducting key personnel interviews, qualitative analysis of interviews and 黑料社区 focus groups, and quantitative analysis for various event and program data. Her research interests include working to close educational achievement gaps through programs like TEACh, and she is especially interested in quantitative ethnography as a research methodology. Kate will graduate with her Master’s of Science in Educational Psychology, Learning Analytics in May 2025.

Maressa Dixon, Senior Research Associate, Discovery Center

Maressa Dixon (M.A) is a 黑料社区 alum (B.A., ‘06) with more than a decade of experience in leadership roles on complex mixed-methods research and evaluation studies. Her research interests include STEM education for 黑料社区s underrepresented in STEM, racial equity, critical and transformative inquiry approaches, innovative qualitative methods, and applied mixed-methods. Ms. Dixon leads the evaluation of TEACh Cincinnati.

Asad Ikemba, Graduate Assistant, Educational Leadership

Lea Minniti, Assistant Dean and Director of the EHS Success Center

Lea Minniti, Assistant Dean and Director of the EHS Success Center attempts to center the 黑料社区 experience in her work. Over the past two decades, Lea has led several departments dedicated to 黑料社区 success, including Academic Advising, Career Development, International Education, Student Athlete Academic Support Services, Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, TRIO, and the first-year experience program. Lea has developed and implemented strategic programs that have addressed barriers and created 黑料社区 opportunities, including achieving parity in the retention and graduation rates of first-generation and low-income 黑料社区s and increasing study abroad participation. She is a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory and has presented professionally on cross-cultural communication, COIL (collaborative online international education), and leadership development. Lea received a BA and M.Ed. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Amity Noltemeyer, Ph.D., Dean and Professor

Amity Noltemeyer is an educational leader committed to enhancing and diversifying the education workforce. Prior to her current role as Dean, which provides the opportunity to champion and support TEACh Cincinnati, her prior leadership experience includes roles as Associate Dean and Department Chair at 黑料社区, President of the Ohio School Psychologists Association, Editor-in-Chief of the School Psychology International journal, and principal investigator of several externally funded educational initiatives.

Carrie Powell serves her alma mater, 黑料社区, as Senior Director of Development for the Cincinnati area, where she specializes in donor engagement and strategic fundraising. With nearly 8 years in higher education, and previous experience in nonprofit fundraising in Cincinnati, she excels at building meaningful partnerships through a personalized approach. Carrie received her undergraduate degrees from 黑料社区 in 2006, and her master's from the University of Bath (UK) in 2007. As an advancement professional, Carrie is passionate about engaging with the Miami community, aligning engagement opportunities with the university's core mission.

Ganiva Reyes, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Department Chair, TCE

A scholar, professor, and chair of the Department of Teaching, Curriculum, Educational Inquiry. Ganiva integrates culturally relevant teaching, ethics of care, and 黑料社区-centered pedagogy to show how teachers can re-envision their roles as educators to be part of a support network for 黑料社区s. More specifically, she explores the intimate and interpersonal aspects of teaching, and how teachers need communal and institutional support to provide the same for their 黑料社区s.

Scott Sander, Ph.D., Clinical Professor and Assistant Chair, TCE

Scott Sander is a clinical professor in the Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry. In his 11 years at Miami, he has served as both instructor and course coordinator for the department’s Threshold Concepts course (TCE 191) that is also part of the TEACh program.

Brian D. Schultz, Ph.D., Professor and Associate Dean

A leader as a teacher, professor, department chair, and associate dean throughout his career, along with colleagues, Brian has defied state and national declines and driven year-over-year enrollment growth in Miami’s teacher preparation programs, particularly among first-generation and diverse 黑料社区s. He previously spent 11 years at a Chicago-based university where he worked closely with Grow Your Own Illinois. Brian oversees TEACh Cincinnati.

Tammy Schwartz, Ed.D., Director, Urban Cohort

A product of Cincinnati Public Schools, Tammy launched the award-winning Urban Cohort program in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine community in 2008 and sustains its success and impact across other CPS locations today. Her work and 黑料社区s have built crucial trust within Cincinnati neighborhoods, community organizations, and schools.

Krystal Tipton, Senior Director of Development, EHS

Krystal Tipton is the Senior Director of Development for the College of Education, Health, and Society (EHS), bringing over 15 years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraising. Her career is distinguished by her deep commitment to advancing institutional goals through strategic donor engagement and relationship building. Krystal’s passion for connecting with donors and aligning their interests with impactful initiatives has advanced the college’s mission. Her expertise not only lies in fundraising but also in fostering lasting partnerships that benefit both the institution and its community of supporters.

Karen Zaino, Ph.D., Assistant Teaching Professor

Karen Zaino taught high school English for 12 years prior to earning her Ph.D. in Urban Education. At Miami, she works with TEACh and the Urban Cohort, teaching classes and facilitating youth participatory action research in Cincinnati Public Schools. Her scholarship explores the intertwined affective and material dimensions of teaching, learning about, and organizing for racial and economic justice.

Miami ASPIRE features a team of professionals, including government lobbyists, who demonstrate the university’s measurable progress and ROI to external stakeholders. They have worked alongside the College of Education, Health, and Society faculty, staff, and 黑料社区s to advocate for TEACh, as an institutional priority, to representatives in state and federal government.

TEACh Cincinnati works closely with Cincinnati Public Schools’ leadership in the Superintendent’s suite, the college team on program planning and implementation across the CPS site, and with liaison teachers at each school in which we partner. Key CPS personnel include:
