Benefit Deductions

The amount Miami withholds from your earnings is determined by the number of pay periods in one year.

  • Faculty on 9-month contracts are paid 10 times per year.
  • Administrative staff and faculty on 12-month contracts or deferred pay are paid 12 times per year.
  • Administrative staff on less than 12-month contracts and do not get paid 12 times, pay premiums based on 12 pays and must make up premiums when a paycheck is missed.
  • Classified employees are paid 26 times per year, but deductions are taken out only 24 times.
  • Classified employees who work less than 52 weeks per year and do not get paid 26 times, pay premiums based on 24 pays and must make up any premiums when a paycheck is missed.

Pre-Tax Deduction

The following deductions are made before federal taxes are taken into account.

403(b) and 457

The amount deducted from your pay will depend on what you elected when you set up your Supplemental Retirement Plan.

Insurance Premiums

If you are enrolled in Miami's health insurance, dental insurance, or voluntary vision plan, you will see the per-pay amount for each of these benefits deducted from your pay.

Health Savings Account (Employee)

If you are enrolled in the high deductible health insurance plan, you will have a Health Savings Account (HSA). If you have completed the HSA certification and are eligible for the HSA, the amount you chose to have deposited into your HSA will be deducted from your paycheck.

Health Savings Account (Employer)

Miami contributes up to 50% of the in-network deductible bi-annually to your HSA. These contributions are made with your first paycheck in January and July, once you have completed the HSA Certification. If you are hired mid-year, Miami's first contribution (pro-rated) will be made the first pay period after you complete the HSA Certification.

Parking Tag

If you have purchased a parking pass from Parking and Transportation Services, you will see a deduction for the per-pay amount of that pass.

Post-Tax Deductions

The following deductions are made after federal taxes are taken into account.

Roth 403(b)

The amount deducted from your pay will depend on what you elected when you set up your Supplemental Retirement Plan.

Roth 457 (Coming 2023)

The amount deducted from your pay will depend on what you elected when you set up your ODC Supplemental deduction. Contact Tom Bugher at 513-829-6499, ohio457.org or the main ODC office at 877-644-6457 for plan enrollment and changes.

  • Voluntary Group Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
  • Voluntary Life Insurance: Employee, Spouse, Child(ren)
