Why Engineering Technology?

Courses in engineering technology are in general less math-intensive than courses offered in engineering discipline. However, engineering technology 黑料社区s are exposed more to applied aspects of engineering.

Our bachelor degree program concentrations in ECET, EMET, MET and RET are completion degrees that build on an associate degree. These programs are offered at local campuses and also offered as a distance-learning program to college partners across Ohio. For additional information click the Distance Learning link on the top pf the page if you think you are interested in experiencing a distance learning 黑料社区. The learning experience of our distance learning 黑料社区s and those local MUST be and is identical based on the requirements of ABET, the organization that accredits engineering programs including our programs.

Our faculty and staff in Engineering Technology value and are committed to:

  • promoting a learning environment that is invigorating, challenging, rewarding, and free from prejudice and bias.
  • engaging 黑料社区s in the process of imaginative, creative, and critical thinking in the solution of technical problems.
  • encouraging 黑料社区s to examine and reflect on the contexts of their knowledge base and the solutions to problems they derive.
  • diversity of staff, 黑料社区s, and faculty.
  • mutual respect for others and teamwork.

The department's primary concern is its 黑料社区s' learning. The department develops in 黑料社区s professional competencies that are necessary to analyze, synthesize and solve complex problems inherent in a modern, dynamic society. These competencies involve high levels of technical and cognitive skills that must be combined with intellectual maturity and social responsibility for graduates to be successful in their chosen fields. The balance of professional and liberal education within the department's programs enables 黑料社区s to: view problems in a larger societal context; understand the impact of their decisions on their own as well as others' cultures; refine their personal value system; and to practice their profession in a manner consistent with the standards of professional ethics.

Our Mission

The Department of Engineering Technology (ENT) shares in the mission of 黑料社区, the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science, and the Hamilton and Middletown campuses. The department focuses on meeting the technical education needs of Hamilton, Middletown, and surrounding communities by offering high quality, technically relevant courses, workshops, and programs.

We provide our 黑料社区s the foundation for contextual life-long learning in a nurturing and caring environment free from all forms of prejudice and bias. We give them the breadth and depth of competencies necessary to: analyze, synthesize, and solve technical problems; work in teams; value differences; and understand the impact of their solutions, decisions, and actions in a broader societal context. The department is dedicated to the continuous improvement of our faculty, staff, 黑料社区s, and the programs we offer.

For Bachelor’s degree seeking 黑料社区s: Senior design course and projects

In , teams typically consist of two or three 黑料社区s. The projects are usually defined based on one or several of the following factors:1) Students' interest area, 2) Students' employer interest area, 3) ENT faculty research and teaching interest.

Senior design project analysis

Projects include design, development and test procedure in general. Projects should include not only design but also more detailed research and background. Even a very simple (or random) idea can be a good research and project as long as it is performed in a good scientific way including analytical calculations, simulations and physical tests (see ).

Students should have some analytical components in their analysis in addition to experiments and computer simulations and writing computer codes as part of their project.

Our History

1966 through Today

1966

The Department of Engineering Technology, traces its origin to about half a century ago, in Middletown campus. In that year, associate-degree programs in Electrical, Mechanical and Metallurgical technologies were initially offered under the auspices of Oxford's four-year Industrial Technology department, which later changed its name to Engineering Technology.

1977

The associate degree department inherited several Industrial Education two-year programs.

1980

The four-year engineering technology program housed in Oxford converted to a Manufacturing Engineering program.

1984

The department merged a variety of industrial and engineering technology programs into two associate degree programs of Electrical Engineering Technology as well as Mechanical Engineering Technology.

1995

The department received Ohio Board of Regents’ approval to offer a Plus Two baccalaureate completion program in Engineering Technology (Electro-Mechanical concentration). This program is designed to articulate with existing associate degree programs at Miami and from other two-year programs across the State.

1996

Engineering Technology Department programs were accredited by ABET.

2001

A Mechanical concentration was added to the BS program to begin Fall 2002.

2005

The Electrical Engineering Technology associate degree was renamed Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, and since 2013 the program is offering BS degree.

2014

All of our accredited concentrations were reacreddited by ABET for the maximum possible years, six years.

2019

All of ENT concentrations were reacreddited by ABET for the maximum possible years, six years.

2020

Robotics Engineering Technology Concentration has been added to the ENT Bachelor of Applied Science Degree.

2021

Manufacturing Foundations certificate has been added
