Dear Miamians,

ºÚÁÏÉçÇø to the 2023 spring semester at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø. I hope you had a wonderful winter break and an opportunity to recharge as we begin the second semester of this academic year. I also hope your return to campus went smoothly despite yesterday's snow. Your presence brings so much energy and enthusiasm to our campuses, and we are glad to have you back.

Each semester creates fresh, possibly transformative, opportunities for the Miami community. Thank you for all you do to make our community thrive, your commitment to our values, and your dedication to our mission. I am honored to be on this journey with you.

Also, welcome to all the ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs, faculty, and staff joining the Miami community for the first time. I hope your semester is filled with positive academic and cultural experiences and memorable campus interactions. Miami is powered by scholarship, innovation, excellence, and, most importantly, extraordinary faculty, staff, and ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs.

We have much momentum moving forward into this semester. There is so much to discover and achieve. As we begin, it's also vital that we take time to care for ourselves and each other. I encourage you to reach out for support when you need it. We are committed to the health and well-being of every community member. Miami is also committed to welcoming diverse perspectives and experiences and creating an environment of belonging throughout our campuses.

Our thoughts are with the victims, families, and survivors impacted by the horrific mass shooting in Monterey Park as Asian Americans welcomed the Lunar New Year. This act of violence has sparked fear in the APIDA community and cast a shadow over festivities across the nation. Counseling support is available for ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs through Student Counseling Service and faculty and staff through Miami's EAP program.
